Fake
encounters in India
is not a new phenomenon.
Often carried out
by the police
they are for
various reasons, the
main being to
please their political
bosses. Other reasons include
to get laurels,
medals and promotion
besides personal enemity
of a cop
with a person. Seldom
these are carried out
for plausible reasons. Yeah in
Mumbai and some
other cities they
have been carried
out to wipe
out the gangsters.
As
I have myself
been a victim
of such an
experience I know
well how the
plan and its
implementation are orchestrated.
In such encounters lower
rung policemen are
the shown as
the main villains
while the senior
cops who order
for such encounters hardly
face ignominy, trial
and conviction. Though
my case is
different as I
have made the
Supritendent of Police (SP)
and Deputy Inspector
General of Police
(DIG) as main
accused besides some
juniors.
The
recent judgment of
a CBI court
sentencing 47 policemen
for life imprisonment
for killing 11 Sikhs
is an eye
opener for the
lower rung of
policemen that before resorting to
such acts they
should go for
their own conscience. Even if
the men or
women killed are
terrorists or anti
social elements law
does not permit
for their killing and
if the seniors
are ordering for that there
be a quick
question why not arrest
them.
One
can not question
armymen for killing the
terrorists sneaking into
India through the
borders as such
incidents have often led
to fierce fighting
and security forces can
not take any chance. But
other parts of
the country has different
story altogether. Here there
is no threat
to the lives
of policemen nor
are there attack
from opposite sides, except
in cases of naxalites.
Mind you none
question such encounters
with the naxalites.
In most
of cases in India
fake encounters are
planned and orchestrated
by senior cops
to please their political
bosses who want
to settle scores
with their foes.
My case is a stark
example. Two senior
politicians and two
senior cops sat
together and planned
how I be
picked in name
of interrogation and killed
in the way. So
overconfident were these
cops and so
idiots were these
politicians that they
could not realise that,
first God is
with me and
also I being
a senior journalist
have some brains
and can anticipate
such plans. And exactly
that happened and despite
all their plans
I survived. But
not all are
that fortunate like
me.
